This 5 week “Season” was established by Pope Francis in 2015, the same year he issued his encyclical, Laudato Si’. It has not been widely known or observed, but we are changing that at MBS.
The Season runs from September 1, which is the “World Day of Prayer for Creation” through October 4, which is the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi. Every year has a universal theme, and the theme for 2024 is “To hope and act with Creation”. What this boils down to is Hope is not passive. Hope energizes us to Act.
We hope you are reading in the Sunday bulletin, on the MBS / Caring for God's Creation website, and in the weekly email blast from MBS--about the various activities being offered to highlight the Season of Creation.
The liturgy of the weekend masses has references to creation and taking care of all creation in words, songs, and prayers of the faithful.
On Sept. 22, we will be teaching all grade levels of Religious Education classes about St. Francis of Assisi, Laudato Si’, and the responsibility to take care of God’s creation.
We are praying Creation Care Rosaries on Sunday, Sept. 8, and Sunday, Sept. 29 at 9:15 AM in the chapel.
There will be a Blessing of the Pets the first week in October, the date still to be determined—but watch for it!
There might be a surprise presentation about St. Francis, given by Fr. Binoy. The date is still to be determined on that as well.
Julianne Davis and Barbara Hinds have been working with the MBS staff to organize these activities. We invite you to participate in them!
Final Week: Oct 4, St. Francis Feast Day, Oct 6, Pet Blessing At MBS !
