Our Ministry is a response to the urgent request by Pope Francis that we take better care of God’s Creation, our earth, and its most vulnerable people. We focus on supporting the environment, people in need, and our parish community.
We welcome Volunteers!
Project Examples:
St. John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI spoke of our need to be better stewards of God’s gift of creation. Now, Pope Francis has added a sense of urgency to the call for all people of the world to act on climate change and to care for people in need.
In Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’, on Care for Our Common Home (2015), he calls all people of the world to act now to impact climate change. He speaks about an integral ecology—that everything is connected, everything is a gift from God and everything will return to God, and we are called to care for God’s creation. He reiterates this urgent climate crisis call in his Apostolic Exhortation, Laudate Deum (2023) addressed to all mankind.
NOAA reports: 2023 was the world’s warmest year on record, by far.
Nations are not on track (Paris Climate Agreement 2015) to reduce greenhouse gases. These gases are causing our planet to warm. The negative effects of a warming planet include: more severe storms, increased droughts, a warming/rising ocean, loss of species, reduced food supplies, more health risks, poverty and climate refugee migration.
NASA, the UN, and NOAA provide data and scientific information about our climate. These organizations predict continued increases in global warming unless there are significant changes in society’s climate policies and actions.
In June 2023, Caring for God’s Creation Ministry was awarded membership in the Vatican’s Laudato Si’ Action Platform (LSAP). Our Ministry became part of a global network of parishes, dioceses, other organizations, and even individuals who are working to make a difference in our communities.
As a member of this global network, we committed to develop a “Laudato Si’ Action Plan” with action items for the 7 Goals of Laudato Si’, and to submit the Plan for posting on the Vatican LSAP website. The MBS Laudato Si’ Action Plan was created, approved, and posted December 2023, titled “Most Blessed Sacrament (2023).”
